CK Online Academy Overview
A Message from Greg Lynch:
As Superintendent for Central Kitsap School District, I am pleased to offer an online learning program locally for the 2012-13 school year. We developed this virtual experience in order to satisfy the education needs of students for 21st century learning and to fulfill our mission of “All Students Learning Well”.
Two years ago we partnered with APEX Learning to meet these challenges using our own highly qualified teachers. Our program, CK Online Academy, provides a comprehensive digital curriculum aligned to state and national standards and is accredited through the State of Washington.
APEX Learning is not new to the digital world. Their rigorous curriculum is used in over 650 school districts throughout the United States.
Welcome to CK Online Academy!
What makes CK Online Academy different: Students who enroll
in CK Online Academy have access to local teachers employed within CKSD not out
of town or on the other side of the State. You can have your questions
answered with local telephone calls or face-to-face meetings. Our online
curriculum is aligned to State standards and is engaging. Monitoring of
student progress helps keep students on track toward graduation with rigorous
content and multimedia.
Eligibility: Any student who is eligible for
high school credit and resides within the Central Kitsap School District
attendance area is able to take classes. Spaces are limited so priority will be given to full-time students.
Attendance: Students are expected to log in daily,
complete work weekly, and actively make progress towards completion.
Students must meet face-to-face with their online advisor on a weekly basis.
Progress meetings will be scheduled at a regular time each month where
both students and parents are invited.
Grading: Students participating in online courses
receive regular letter grades that factor into their GPA and are recorded on
their permanent transcripts.
Drop and Withdrawals: Students will be automatically dropped
in the first twenty days if they are not logging in, completing work, or
participating in the course. Dropping a course after thirty days results
in an "F" on the student transcript.
Graduation: In addition to online coursework, students will
need to complete other graduation requirements (High School and Beyond
Portfolio, Culminating Project, Classroom Based Assessments, and High School
Proficiency Exams) not offered within the online environment. Please talk
to your Online Academy instructor about how these requirements can be met.
